What is EFT?

EFT is sometimes referred to or described as:

            tapping
            emotional acupuncture
            acupuncture 'without the needles'
            an acupressure technique
            energy therapy
            an energy psychology

It is best explained as a Natural 'Tapping' Technique, evolved from practices in use for over 5000 years and based on the same principles as acupuncture.

What can it be used for?

EFT is a safe and gentle form of therapy, effective at healing most emotional and physical problems.

You may already be aware that your physical health is affected by the state of your emotions, but many Holistic Practitioners believe that ALL disease has its root cause in the emotions. EFT can therefore often improve physical problems by treating the emotions.

A trained and skilled EFT Practitioner will try to undercover the emotional root cause of a physical problem, as well as working on how you feel about your illness or injury. In addition you will be shown how to use EFT yourself to alleviate symptoms and useTapping daily to promote health and well-being.

EFT is of real value in overcoming addictions, and EFT Practitioners are trained to understand that the real cause of ALL addiction is ANXIETY. Whether it be food, cigarettes, alcohol, drugs or compulsive behaviours, few people realise that the reason they have an addiction is because of underlying anxiety. It makes sense then, that until that anxiety is dealt with, one addiction may well replace another; this is the reason why many who give up smoking, find they are then struggling with their weight!  Nicotine, chocolate, wine or compulsive shopping, all provide a sense of comfort, relief, escape, or a 'high' that allows temporary relief from stress or anxiety caused by a known or hidden cause. EFT treatment for addiction includes dealing with the anxiety, self-help for craving control and breaking the habitual behaviour and daily tapping to promotoe a healthy energy and emotional system.

EFT as a therapeutic technique can help treat:

            anxiety
            phobia
            traumatic memories
            weight loss
            migraine
            blood pressure
            anger
            relationship problems
            allergies
            and more...

EFT as an effective method of self-help for:

            controlling cravings
            alleviating panic
            symptom relief
            pain management
            and more...

EFT as a powerful 'coaching' tool for creating positive change in:

            sports coaching
            motivation
            improving performance
            achieving goals
            creative enhancement
            spiritual development

How does EFT work?

“The cause of all negative emotions is a disturbance in the body’s energy system” - Gary Craig, Creator of EFT

Very simply explained, EFT works by a simple tapping motion on key acupuncture points, to calm this disruption in the body's energy system; thus eliminating the negative emotion.

We are not used to thinking of ourselves in terms of energy. Yet everything in the Universe in made up of energy, a concept first introduced into Western thinking by Einstein in the 1920's. Eastern cultures describe it as the Life Force, Qi, Chi or Ki.

Other key elements of EFT are discoveries in quantum physics which show how the power of thought and the focus of positive intention can be directed to alter cellular structure, also how self-acceptance and self-forgiveness promote emotional health and spiritual well-being.

Is it really that easy?

Sometimes but not always.

Whilst some people do experience immediate and permanent freedom from a negative emotion, or relief from a physical symptom, more often further treatments are required.  Different 'aspects' of an issue will often need to be treated and persistent 'self-help' or 'homework' tapping over a period of time required, before effective results are seen. Usually a problem dealt with correctly will not re-occur. Each case is unique and you will be advised on how many sessions you may require at your Assessment Consultation.

Where does EFT come from?

Developed in the USA during the 1980's by Gary Craig, EFT is based on the work of Dr Roger Callahan who devised Thought Field Therapy (TFT)

Thought Field Therapy was ten years in development and brought together Dr John Diamond's Behavioural Kinesiology (muscle testing in conjunction with psychotherapy), with Callahan's own personal investigations into ancient healing practices, especially 'tapping'.

There is evidence that methods of stimulating key acupuncture points (acupoints); which ranged from (acu)puncture, moxibustion (burning herbs), shiatsu (finger pressure) and tapping; were in use for over 5000 years ago.

If you feel that 'Alternative' or 'New Age' is not for you...

Think again...

These techniques, of which EFT is one of the simplest, have been used in various forms for at least 5000 years that we are aware of; there is nothing 'weird' or 'new' about them. As such they are far more aptly described as a ‘Natural Therapy', since they are methods truly organic to the human race.

Emotional Freedom Techniques, is not a quick-fix or magical cure.  But it is a powerful and proven procedure, that if used with skill and persistence can have a remarkable, immediate, usually permanent effect, with no known side-effects.  However, while EFT has produced remarkable clinical results, it must still be considered to be in the experimental stage and accordingly Practitioners and the public must take complete responsibility for their use of it.
